Phillip Adams has been creating an artistic repertoire to date that includes some of Australia’s most provocative and sensational choreography.
As Artistic Director of BalletLab, Phillip has developed a reputation for creating contemporary dance works that encompass a diversity of artistic forms and new media. These works have proven to be immensely appealing to audiences worldwide whose interests span dance, theatre, design, architecture, music and film. Having spent a decade performing and working in New York Adams returned to Australia in 1997 and established the groundbreaking company BALLETLAB. Phillip’s highly conceived artistic creations and visions range vastly from exorbitant, technically virtuosic ballets to highly sophisticated and meticulously conceived performance installations. Phillip’s repertoire offers a cosmos of ideas that hover between beauty and death.

His work utilises both the staging and the choreography to create platforms for the collaborating artists and the attending audience to delve wholeheartedly into fantasy.
There is an opulent orderliness that lies beneath the episodic works and transitions between landscapes, worlds and shifting genres. Phillip’s dramatic and detailed choreography is strikingly contemporary in nature while remaining classical in form. Phillip has been commissioned by several leading national and international dance and theatre companies including The Australian Ballet, Chunky Move, Back to Back Theatre, Guongdong Modern Dance Company (China), Dance Works Rotterdam (Nederlands), City Contemporary Dance Company (Hong Kong), Tasdance, and One Extra Co. Phillip regularly teachers workshops nationally and internationally. |
